No one wants Shapiro. Which means she will probably pick Shapiro. The dems always sabotage themselves.

I’m worried about this too. As a Jew I feel pretty weird about this whole thing. I’m generally against Israel and everything they do, and frankly I don’t care about having the first Jewish VP. Harris is already married to a Jew, and based on the rampant antisemitism that has only been growing over the last few years, I don’t think the country is ready for or would ultimately want a Jew first in line to the presidency. Doesn’t make it right, but winning is more important right now.

I think outside of elite circles, antisemitism is way worse than those in the circles think. I’m worried they don’t take the antisemites seriously enough nor do they realize just how antisemitic completely “normal” people are capable of being.

For example, over the last few weeks in my liberal Northern California community, there has been a group leaving antisemitic fliers (I’m talking swastikas and everything) on cars in parking lots. Antisemites are everywhere, regardless of whether or not Israel is currently committing genocide.

We need to win, firsts be damned.

It’s not anti-Semitism to say you don’t want to support someone that supports the State of Israel. An anti-Israel Jew would get a whole lot of support I think.

I do have a sinking feeling it will be Shapiro for much of those same reasons.

I mean, it’s irresponsible to think our lemmy bubble is representative of anything. A ton of people think Shapiro is a good pick, though a lot of them either don’t know about the Palestine opinions (pretty sure most people didn’t know until very recently as it is) and they think it would help with PA

You have a two-party system and Independents almost never get anywhere. Bernie is the exception in that regard. Consequently they have to work with one of the other two parties if they want to actually accomplish anything.

Independent since 1981, but he’s unsuccessfully run in the Democratic primaries for President.

He’s independent when the party screws him over, he’s a Democrat when the party wants progressives to like them.

I got that, was just surprised to see “(I-Vermt)” after his name. Thought it would be Democrat. Deep respect for the guy, this just adds to it for some reason.
