  • Most people seem to want others not to have a good life, ignoring or disregarding the effects that might have on themselves.

Many if not most would sacrifice their own wellbeing if that guarantees that “the right people” will also suffer. They see the world as a zero sum game, and can’t conceive the possibility of having a good life if others aren’t having a bad one.

Most people suck, often to the point of being monstrous by any decent definition.

And he was scared of Ungoliant, and we don’t know what she is, besides nasty, and hungry, and shaped like a huge spider (well, spiders are shaped like her, probably).

(He also got his foot almost cut off by an elf in single combat and walked with a limp ever after — well, at least until he got his hands and feet cut off by the rest of the Valar, I suppose —, but elves were mighty back then.)

  • Neither the Beast nor the Smiler are ignorant, conspiracy theorists, or foreign assets though (grifters and sex criminals, most definitely, I’ll give you that, especially the Smiler, but most of the City’s population seems to fit in those categories too, so in that sense they do represent their electorate).

They’re both quite competent and intelligent psychopaths.

Now, if we’re talking about the Republican Party Reservation and its associated TV show, or the vat-grown VP…

  • Streaming is bringing unskippable ads and surveillance.

Torrents bring neither and are higher quality and more user friendly.

The internet is making things worse, not better.

No, it’s not. Before the Internet you could only watch what was on, when it was on.

Now you can torrent anything you want to watch, whenever you want to watch it, and in much higher quality than TV used to be. And, again, without ads, which TV has always been riddled with.

That’s infinitely better, on multiple metrics.
