To be fair nuclear war would probably spell the end of capitalism so there’s that silver lining. With enough nukes you can burn away the racism and superstitions of the old world, erase the borders confining us, and liberate mankind from oppressive hierarchies. Not very environmentally friendly though. Maybe there is a better way?
As a new Linux user coming from Windows I’d recommend Mint. If you have very new hardware and want better support go for something like Endeavor, openSUSE tumbleweed, or Nobara/Fedora KDE. Almost any distro with exceptions like Alpine and Qubes will probably be more or less OK.
