    So you’re on lemmy.ca. But lemmy.ca does not know every single community that is made anywhere in the fediverse, because the creation of a new community is not automatically broadcast.

    If a user on lemmy.ca accesses the new community, THEN all of a sudden lemmy.ca knows about it. But it doesn’t download all the old posts, it only gets the posts that are made after lemmy.ca found out about it.

    So probably 5 months ago someone made the most recent post on yoga@lemmy.world, then a couple months after that someone on lemmy.ca heard about it and subscribed. But nobody posted anything to yoga@lemmy.world since then, so lemmy.ca’s view of yoga@lemmy.world has nothing on it.

    (edit: I take it back, in some cases lemmy does get the old posts… i think it might have something to do with the lemmy versions involved.)
