I want to believe this is a satirical bill meant to bring attention to how absurd a lot of other bills are, but it is Mississippi. And with how things are going these past several years, it’s becoming harder and harder to tell at face value if something is an Onion or not.
Did you know that Mississippi is the anus of the US?
I believe this makes it a woman’s duty to take all erections up the right hole.

Banning masturbation will not stop abortion lol
It’s a stunt to highlight how we only discuss the woman’s role in abortion and how most anti-abortion laws are anti-woman. Was this not clear? Im asking this seriously because so many seem to be missing this here.

Is this proposal patently ridiculous? Yes. Do I believe there’s at least one legislator in Mississippi who unironically believes in this bill exactly as written, and is playing this completely straight? Considering all that’s happened so far, why not?
Satire doesn’t work when the obvious hyperbolic nonsense is within actual expected behavior of the satirized.
I won’t claim one way or the other that this is or is not satire. I don’t know who this legislator is and I don’t really care. But no, with the whole article you’re pasting everywhere in this thread as my only context clue, I certainly didn’t find enough evidence to be convinced he doesn’t actually believe this.

The target obscure British comedy group named after the pet snake of one of their WW2 generals wrote a song about this exact situation:

So basically it’s illegal to do so without the intent to fertilize an embryo… unless doing it as part of a contraceptive method? Isn’t abstinence - e.g. not having sex - a legitimate method?.. wouldn’t masturbation be a way to manage abstinence?

I know its Mississippi but this guy has to realize this targets women with a bias. Men: “Don’t masturbate or have sex for fun!”… Damn that sucks… Women: “Don’t masturbate or have sex for fun!.. oh and don’t ever release an egg again”. Wait I cant exist as a woman pre menopausal? Nope

Yes it’s fun to look at this joke in different ways and to think of how it could be written in much better ways.
That and I would worry that if people took it too seriously, it could lead to a lot more rape.

I did read the article. While I understand he’s trying to even out the responsibility for pregnancy, I’m at a loss to understand how this will legitimately help in any way.
