Summary
Lily Nichol, a 15-year-old from County Durham, is in serious condition after a paraglider struck her while she was dining with family in Turkey.
She suffered severe injuries, including a broken jaw, spine fractures, and a brain bleed, necessitating multiple surgeries totaling £45,000.
Her mother hadn’t purchased travel insurance, leaving the family to cover mounting medical costs, currently at £7,200.
They have launched an online fundraiser for Lily’s care. The British Embassy is assisting the family, and Lily’s surgery is scheduled for Monday.
Oh fuck! Buy travel insurance…
This story is annoyingly short on details. This is all we get:
When Lily was eating pizza at a restaurant with her mum and older sister, a paraglider “came from nowhere”, Ms Logan said.
How did that happen? Did the paraglider crash into the restaurant? Were they sitting outside? Where was the restaurant? On the beach? Near a big cliff?
Probably outside, yeah. Do any of those details really matter though? You’d usually think the paraglider would have some sort of insurance that would cover these bills though. What happened to the paraglider? Why did they crash?
Right, I want to know what happened to the paraglider too.
I didn’t find much more info, but there’s this
Ms Logan said she was furious to see the paraglider allegedly joking and drinking with his friends after the collision at the resort of Oludeniz in south-west Turkey
At least that’s a little more info. Thanks.
Everyone processes trauma differently. Personally I might be laughing and drinking because otherwise I’d be breaking down.
