    There are different types of amish people and they have different attitudes towards modern technology. I remember watching some video where they were building a barn and using battery powered tools but using a gasoline generator to charge the batteries because grid electricity is forbidden.

        Their entire Luddite mindset is intended to keep their members tied to the church.

        They can use gas and kerosene to power engines other than ones that allow them to travel at reasonable speeds. They can use any electric device unless it’s attached to the grid.

        Their entire cult is devoted to maintaining their bishop’s creepy control over their members lives.

      It’s a little more complicated than you might think from what I understand, it’s not necessarily against their rules.

      I have the same thought for a brief moment, but then I realized that not only do I not have authority to police their decision, but I also don’t care anyways.
