Now, in a new interview with German publication Zeit Online ahead of a performance of his new orchestral show Merregnon: Heart of Ice, Uematsu said he thinks his days of composing full video game soundtracks are over.

Asked if he ever felt that one day nostalgia could take over and convince him to write an entire soundtrack for a game again as opposed to just a main theme, Uematsu replied that he didn’t see it happening.

The man has been working since the mid 80s and he’s in his 60s.

Just let the man retire in peace

      Right?

“64-year-old composer dares to retire after lifelong career of creating genre-defining compositions; REFUSES to create more!”

If that’s his studio setup, it just goes to show that talent can make magic out of literally anything. Hats off to the man!

I just watched a pro orchestral musician have a reaction to the ac version of one winged angel. It just blew his mind!

What makes you think you need a big studio to come up with same music in your head and write it down on a piece of paper?

Most of the soundtracks he worked on were made in business settings with many other people working on it in commercial studios.

I don’t think that at all. But I have met a number of kids who seem to think they absolutely need red cameras, Mac studios, and other ‘broadcast quality’ items to make a simple college video. The point was exactly that: if you’re.good, it doesn’t matter the equipment. It’ll show.

As much as I yearn for more compositions from him, if my GOAT wants to retire then I only wish him restful twilight years.

He could have retired after FF6 and it would’ve been an illustrious career. But he’s been pretty much retired from whole game scores since he started working with Mistwalker as far as I can tell. Enjoy that Hawaii business.
