The US military cannot conduct drone operations from a base in Niger because the country’s military junta has closed its airspace.

Why was it there to begin with I wonder?

    They built the base assuming there wouldn’t be political turmoil closing the airspace. Once the coup settles whoever comes out on top will allow the US to use the air base and keep funding an aid coming in. So the money is not wasted
