The thing is Max is good enough that somewhat equal machinery isn’t going to make any difference, except reduce the gap he wins by. I’m genuinely convinced he needs a significantly weaker car for there to be an actual fight. He really is that good.
When he eventually retires after going into some other disciplines like WEC, I’m fairly sure he’ll be considered one of (perhaps the) best drivers of all time.
Completely agree.
Pre-2021 Max was fighting with prime LH in a significantly worse car, and while not regularly winning, he was still fast.
I hope to see him in WEC and other disciples. If he can win there too he’ll definitively be considered one of the best drivers of all time up there with Clark and a few others.
I’m glad you mentioned Clark because that is actually the name that I think of too when I see Max, especially what with him casually being able to compete with the best sim racers in the world as a hobby in parallel to being perhaps the best F1 driver we’ve ever seen.
I think he’ll be in that same discussion of just universal genius drivers who can be instinctively fast in anything.
I agree. And I think the only way Redbull will end up with a significantly weaker car during these regs is if reduced windtunnel and CFD time dramatically stacks up.
