Even the most obvious AI-generated images/audio get paraded around on social media. No one gives close scrutiny.
if you can still die while wearing a seatbelt what’s the point
If you want privatized gains, you must accept privatized losses. No risk, no reward.
I’ve seen definitions of AGI vary from anything that shows transfer of learning (which GPT-4 already fulfills) to being able to automate 99% of all remote work jobs (which GPT-4 is nowhere close to). Elon Musk could have a case here if the first definition is used, but I do agree that claiming that GPT-4 is AGI is a huge weak point in his case.
i hope you get scalped like those american settlers on the frontier during “peacetime”

idk lol, you can put screens on your fridge? you can watch TV while cooking by putting a screen on the wall? you can have an insane 8 screen setup on the ceiling lying in bed?
nobody else can see your screens so this might be a plus or a minus depending on the context
You can put screens everywhere
We’ve already seen Adobe Photoshop getting AI integration, so I don’t think MS Word getting ChatGPT as that far off.
I agree. The problem is not with generative AI but with capitalism.
It is time to destroy all GPUs.
New tech doesn’t have to replace an industry wholesale, it just has to make it so that one person is more productive and capable of taking on more work that might’ve gone to another employee needing to be hired.
I agree. AI doesn’t need to automate 100% of people’s jobs, it just needs to automate 90% of people’s jobs and allow one person to pick up the work of ten.
Capitalism has spent decades convincing people not to value artists, writers and scientists and it’s really fucking sad to see some people’s attitudes being “Well writers have been making lazy shit lately so I don’t care if they get replaced”. Mother fucker those writers aren’t lazy, they’re working in terrible conditions and have to have their work butchered by marketing teams.
A few years ago, when artists were speaking out against generative AI, I laughed at them because I never thought that AI was going to be able to draw hands and that any artist so terrible they could be threatened by AI that can’t draw hands deserved their misery.
I was wrong to think that way, because a year later, AI figured out how to draw hands. And today, my own work is seriously threatened by generative AI.
People are going to notice though, people already hate Marvel movies, but with AI shit the bourgeoisie will have even more control over art, and the quality will be even worse than what people hate now. It’s popular for now because it’s new, but people are already kind of starting to dislike it for its repetitive nature and soullessness.
AI allows mediocre people to make an endless stream of mediocre, dull, aseptic, sterile content.
It only took a few years from shitty dall-e mini memes to photorealistic images. Even if AI isn’t “good enough” (a standard that keeps on getting raised every time a new development comes out), what about in 2025? What about in 2026?
Like, “AI can’t draw hands” used to be a meme, but AI can draw hands now. AI used to not be able to form coherent backgrounds, but AI can form coherent and consistent 3D environments now. I think people have a right to be worried!
GPT used to not be able to remember long conversations, but Gemini 1.5 can remember 1 million tokens now.
This technology is getting better day by day, and it’s showing no signs of stopping.
It’s not even actual AI, just an algorithm.
How long can you really say this is the case? LLMs and diffusion models in 2024 are so much better in terms of capability than conventional algorithms that it’s just a truism to say “it’s just an algorithm”.
Like, technically, lions and tigers are just biochemical reactions and atoms, but if I’m getting chased by one, knowing that isn’t going to bring me any solace.
I suspect that there will be so much terrible shit made with AI that they wind up having to hire people to correct it.
I mean, artists are already being asked to “clean up” AI-generated images, so this is already happening lol.
I mean, “AI will crash eventually” is little relief when animators are getting put out of jobs right now. Everyone can talk all they want about how generative AI can’t produce real art, but it’s clear that AI is already good enough and getting way better each year. I’m probably not going to get put out of a job in 2024, but what about 2025 or 2026?
i’ll probably be joining you by the end of 2025 lol
For context, Chinese cops are unarmed. This is fine because people in China don’t have guns.
As a tangent, I got reminded of someone saying that the presence of 50 000 guns in China proves that gun control always fails, completely ignoring the fact that China has a population of 1 400 000 000. That is a rate of 0.000036 guns per person. In comparison, the USA has more guns than people.
