I’ve mapped a quick access button on my steering wheel to “toggle navigation mute/unmute”. Best experience so far. Thanks to the engineer that decided to put that button there instead of a blank (when ordered without heated steering wheel).

Nah, I’m living outside the US, my home is made from proper bricks and concrete. A bit slower to build but rather good when it comes to sound insulation. I could imagine with those strand board walls that might be a problem though.

I’ve found that the only thing you can hear through a closed basement door are noisy high speed fans, e.g. from used 19" servers, disks produce much less noise.

There is a ban on engines though that can’t run without creating additional CO2 emissions from 2035 though. Tough luck for fossil engines in their current configurations, but not unsolvable for the very special applications where they’ll still be needed.
