That feels obvious to me, and has for quite some time. The fact the hype machine has been saying the opposite for over two years has kept me second guessing my gut intuition, and yet I kept coming back to this us good and useful in some scenarios, but it will take a lot of big jumps to replace people becsuse coding was never the hard part.

There is definitely a lot of work and improvement in this area needed. It’s frustrating to see them pouring resources into other parts of the ecosystem that I don’t use, but my hope is that brings in enough users to help increase functionality across the whole ecosystem over time.

I’ve wanted to try this for quite some time. Always struggled getting started. Any tips or pointers for getting a minimal setup working?

I’ve done it, and it’s really marvelous. Once there, a car really is necessary to get around because the park is huge and everything is very spread out.

I’m not saying its a great year to study, but a lot of people had already moved on by 2021.

This used to be more true than it is now. More centers are requiring folks to enter through the main entrance and scan a membership card to enter.

Not all locations, but more are moving this direction. The two nearest me did within the last year.

For all of the attention in the early days about Lemmy being rust based and thus focused on performance, the database seems to be the main bottleneck neck and from anecdotal monitoring of the other admins complaints I’d say that seems true.

Seems like some design issues lead to heavy database usage and its going to be really hard to optimize away from that.

I don’t really have a better idea, just acknowledging even a small instance has to scale disproportionally to its size when the rest of the network grows and that’s heavy on the database specifically.

No, as it stands this is the end of F-Droid. Each developer registration must include the manifest IDs of all apps they publish. No way F-droid can include all the apps they publish in their registration.

Its a progressive web app, which means it is available as a browser based site that can be installed like an app.

Additionally that “like an app” part is packaged up and available on play and FDroid stores.

Not everyone can afford or has the space to have both, and portability becomes the key factor. Easy to grab this laptop as desktop throw it in a bag and go. Can’t really do that with a desktop.

If being proficient at using teams means people can work from where they prefer, it’s my opinion that it’s your duty to do it, so everyone has better choices.

Obviously that isn’t the opinion held here, but that is more indicative of companies trying to reduce headcount because their growth has slowed. Growing companies are meeting people where they are. Broadly speaking of course.

How arduous is that for non developers? Is this something a regular non-technical person can do?

Agreed, but I’m really waiting for a drive client. VPN is great but there are other ways to deal with that on Linux, the rclone setup is hokey and not great, better than nothing to be sure, but first party support is desperately needed.

Only sometimes. I’ve seen the mute button be disabled on numerous machines. Worth knowing and trying when the screen is blaring ads at you, but my success rate has been low in muting them.
