  • Thanks for the recommendation! I tried both, but sadly it didn’t work.

I could extract the ppd file from the MacOS driver, but I still need to substitute some OS specific paths that lead to executable files and icc profiles, like *cupsFilter: "application/vnd.cups-raster 0 /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/Filters/Raster2CanonIJ/Raster2CanonIJS.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Raster2CanonIJS". Not that many, just two or three. I will most likely try to install the drivers on a MacOS VM and see if I can extract those files and place them in a Linux-specific cups directory (/usr/lib/cups or something). I think so far the odds are even.

Update: It looks like I have all the binary files with me. Raster2CanonIJS, Command2CanonIJ, the ICC profiles and whatnot. I’m now looking for some guidance on where I should place those files on Linux, that would belong in /Library/Printers/Canon/..., etc. on MacOS.

  • Thanks! I saw the framing and stood there for some time until I spotted the caring mom and her baby. I thought it was a really affectionate scene, so I shot it and kept it. It wasn’t my favorite photo I took that day, but somehow it appealed to my partner and a couple friends, so I decided to post it.

I also agree that I hope the street photography community flourishes. I will try to keep posting there regularly, to see if we can bring some engagement back. I truly want to see the fediverse thriving!

  • I would suggest checking “sold items” on eBay (there’s a filter for that, or add &LH_Complete=1 to your link). You’ll see that body-only Canon M10 cameras are actually being sold for around USD 180 or GBP 145. Those that are more expensive usually include lenses or other accessories. Sellers can always charge how much they want, but whether listings will be successful is a different question.

  • I understand it this way: you get confused because you try to decide what the cam should do before you know what the cam should do :-)

As an explanation, I can only guess that your capture device/software has sent some command to the cam, and got that result.

You are absolutely correct. My TV supports HDMI-CEC, so if “Device control” is set to “On” under the “HDMI” tab, the camera will display a slideshow whenever connected to a HDMI-CEC device. If “Device control” is set to “Off” or if the screen doesn’t support CEC, then a mirrored image of the camera’s screen will be transmitted.

You can check my main post edit for details.

    I really appreciate your help!
