When there is radiation, everyone is always totally fine yet the “one minute to lethal exposure” always goes all the way into the last minute. Nobody has any issues before that thought.

All the illnesses, parasites and exposures that happen that they don’t just remove with the beamy thingy.

Even the aliens are very into 20th century Earth stuff, European and USA stuff especially.

All-cabable entities are for some reason petty and mean and super interested in historical Earth stuff.

These people are just so spectacularly unserious.

Absolutely loved the passion of the first audience commentary on the need to re-center imperialism.

Also found Harveys takes on China to be surprisingly western chauvinist or something. The way he compares things was surprisingly, I don’t know how to word this, simplistic? It seems symptomatic of academia as I see similar stuff a lot in my uni reading.

The middle guy was voicing the interesting anxiety Western left academia currently has about the breaking of nation-states and therefore consensus. I just read a whole book that was essentially about the same and also downplayed imperialism (as Lenin frames it). It seems very contradictory as it almost feels like they are pining for the very systems of liberal democracy they at the same time critical of.

Watched the entire discussion. A much better use of my time than just browsing stuff all night, thank you for sharing.

As a mushroom picker this thing right here was my first big issue with the AI grift. It doesn’t take a tech bro to understand how these models cannot actually give advice on anything because they make no decisions.

There was a really inreresting study locally on the heuristics of mushroom picking, turns out it’s one of the riskiest foraging things we humans do and one where we have culturally developed very efficient and well working precautionary principles. It is a pretty perfect example of how an AI model is not intelligent in any way.
