  • Just so you know, I used to be an Admin/Overmod of this website. I was part of the initial vanguard that fought the bots. Downvotes were actually ruining the site. You couldn’t use hot or most upvoted to organize because of wrecker bots downvoting all the good stuff while up voting terrible things.

Now if you really dislike something instead of passively downvoting things now you have to communicate. This is bad for wreckers, CHUDs and Fascist cause it means the community can clean out the scum we don’t want here, especially if they are the usual kind who aren’t here to listen.

Gotta educate these youngsters on the history of this site lol.

  • If you can’t set up a one on one, go to one of their Organizing 101 meeting, especially if you’re already a paying member. Most likely Organizers will be there and you will learn the same things you’ll learn in meeting with them. The end goal of any union that sets up with the IWW is that eventually enough of your co-workers also become organizers at your workplace and then you can stop meeting with the IWW and hold your own meetings.

In the meantime the biggest thing you can start on while waiting to hear from an organizer is to start social mapping your workplace, identify social leaders and start listening to what your co-workers are also complaining about. You’re going to have to do the thing all Hexbear users hate, Socializing IRL. Just remember listen 80% of the time and talk 20% of the other time.

Don’t straight up use the “Union” Word around folks unless you think they’re in to be on the Organizing committee

  • I worked three years for Alamo Drafthouse, was hired full time and had very little issues at first. I was making 36-40 hours a week because I was the most experienced bartender they had for a while, at least at the service bar… But then I got sick with strep and in a two month period missed two weeks of work. Nothing I could do about it. I caught strep for the first time SINCE I WAS 5 YEARS OLD. No idea how I managed it but I did, and I was forced to miss a week due to health code rules. A few weeks later it comes back a second time and I miss another week.

Because of how Alamo does their benefits, using am averaging system to determine who is worthy of benefits, I was literally 1 hour below the average threshold… no problem! I had all month to catch back up and all I had to do was work 4 41 hours weeks and I would be caught up.

So I was doing everything I could, talked to one of the manager and she said she would make sure I get the hours I need to qualify for health insurance!

But the other manager must have had something against me, as other managers maliciously cut me EVERY night despite my protest.

I walked out them in the middle of a shift as soon as I got a job elsewhere.

Fuck Alamo Drafthouse, they have not been the same since Tim Leugue gave 60% of the shares to Private Equity firms.
