So what is the point they are trying to make in that video?

Is it just listing facial changes since Witcher 3? Or is it whining because the girl became less fappable in their opinion and claim it is woke?

Determining if games are any good is getting really tiring because it involves wading through an insufferable number of manchildren whining about stupid things.

Essentially you need to find some influencers you agree with. That are willing to call out a game for being shit, too.

Wait for game to be out, wait for your favourite YouTuber to review it. Read Steam reviews that aren’t oneliners or religious rants

Just don’t preorder. You know what I told my friends several years ago?

“Cyberpunk 2077 is the first game I’m actually considering preordering because it looks so awesome”

I didn’t. And I’m glad I didn’t. I still enjoyed the game a lot, just later, after it had been patched to hell and back.

It’s worth noting as well, you don’t even need to agree with the reviewer, you just need to get to know their tastes. If they always negatively review games you like, then a negative review from them is basically an endorsememt.

I finally decided to watch the trailer. Here’s what really bothers me:

CDPR give us our first glimpse into the world of The Witcher 4 as Ciri takes on a fearsome monster called the Bauk in this trailer pre-rendered in a custom build of Unreal Engine 5.

I know it’s just the first trailer, but this tells me nothing about what the game will look like, or run like. UE5 is notoriously hard to optimize properly for, and this is CDPR’s first game using it. I’m already pretty sure my 3060Ti won’t run it, but I’m sorta worried that we’re talking 5090Ti if I want to run it on my 1440p 120Hz screen, which isn’t even a high resolution or refresh rate nowadays.

I also don’t like that they replaced the voice actor, but then I think this is supposed to be a more mature Ciri, whereas Witcher 3 Ciri was still pretty young. So it makes sense.

I mean… This was the first trailer to stir up a bit of excitement for a game that has only just entered full-scale development. They probably don’t even yet know themselves what it will look like and how it will run on what hardware. Expecting that kind of info at this point is unrealistic

Fair enough, I just hope that future trailers will be actually rendered real time. Scripted sure, but at least real time.

I love that they moved to an engine that they can find competent devs and artists for rather than having to train everyone in-house, but UE5 in particular seems to have so many issues. I think it might just be too much engine for some projects.

They will have to make sure it runs on current-gen consoles, so it will probably also run alright on mid-range PCs.

Yeah games using UE are always worth waiting a bit on, so many of them run poorly, either low fps or stutters and other weird issues.

I think the trailer looks fine. But remember that 1) The original writing team is long gone and 2) CDPR has made it very clear that they’re pursuing a DEI agenda, rather than good writing. I still hope we’ll get something good.

I feel like the author wanted me to get bored by the over the top depravity and violence as part of the feel of the book and the characters mindset.
On the plus side, it was an effective technique that worked and added to the character of the book.
On the downside, it worked and made the later parts of the book obscenely tedious.

You like Huey Lewis And The News?

Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He’s been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is “Hip To Be Square”. A song so catchy, most people probably don’t listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it’s not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It’s also a personal statement about the band itself.

Do you like Ice Nine Kills?

Their early work was a little bit too scene for me But when The Silver Scream came out I think they really came into their own Commercially and artistically The whole album has a refined melodic sensibility that really makes it a cut above the rest

Source. I just can’t see anything related to American Psycho anymore without thinking of Ice Nine Kills’ brilliant homage to it

Haha. Listening to it right now, didn’t realize your comment was from it.

Not gonna lie, that track slaps. I’ve heard a couple other songs from them, and also thought they were too scene for my liking.

Although I do quite like their “walking on sunshine” with reel big fish. I think that’s the only song I heard previously of theirs that I liked.

I’ll check out some of their other stuff. Thanks for posting.

I’ve listened to Every Trick in The Book a few too many times and its really cool for capturing the ambience of books you may or may not have read in high school. My favorite song by them is Me, Myself and Hyde which does some really cool stuff with Dr Jeckyl’s parts being performed in clean vocals with acoustic strings accompanying and Mr Hyde’s parts in unclean vocals, with Mr Hyde taking over more and more as the song progresses.

Bloodbath and Beyond is another strong contender as well

They pretty explicitly make it sound like she underwent Witcher mutations in the meantime. How that happens, I have no idea, maybe it’ll be a plot point in the game? If they hand-wave it away I’ll be disappointed

What’s a couple decades with a dying witcher school, the world’s most powerful sorceresses and the ability to teleport to the dimension where magic was birthed?

I’m pretty sure Yenn or Triss mention how trivial it would be for them to figure out the potions and transmutations required to make the trials happen but the Witchers are very, very against an outsider touching it all. The original plans were made by a sorceress in any case.

I’m sure they’ll have a perfectly reasonable way of explaining how she went through the trials.

I’m not very deep into the lore but aren’t there other Witcher schools that might not necessarily see the transformation the same way the wolf school came to see it?

Yeah, totally. As far as game lore goes I don’t see why they can’t change that. As far as we can see all of the schools had widely varied ideologies. What is good, what is evil, contract killing and more. I see no reason in established lore that another school couldn’t have had female witchers or why the Lodge wouldn’t want to get their hands on the recipes to revive the witcher schools.

I think this is from the movie Thank You For Smoking. I think about it all the time. They were discussing having a paid advertisement of an astronaut smoking in a space station. One character points out it wouldn’t work because of the pure oxygen environment being explosive. The other character responds “We’ll just say ‘oh thank God we invented the whatever device!’” It’s sort of become an in joke with my wife about rough edges of plots in sequels.

I haven’t played any of the games, so I don’t really know why they couldn’t.

You can learn it practically if you take a couple of anatomy classes oriented towards a medical career. A good chunk never really get used outside of precision in documentation, if it’s a specialty (everyone says “cheek”, but the dentist says “buccal”), or if the common term is actually too vague to work with (broken arm -> greenstick fracture of the left radius)

Taking an anatomy class to talk like a plastic surgeons billing notes is just weird.
