I’m still fighting with Amazon to get my first pair of devices delivered, I went with heltec v3s to get started.

But looking at the meshmap.net, it’s very very sparse around me. How likely is it that the are nodes that aren’t on the map?

Hopefully I can check it out myself soon!

There’s way way more nodes around me IRL and I see new nodes every day. Join us! Make sure you buy a good antenna, the ones that come with heltec v3 are only useful for receiving but are no good for transmitting unless to another device that’s basically touching it.

So far no nodes other than the two I bought. I got the upgraded longer antenna, and went out on my second story balcony in a suburban area, nothing.

Looks like I’ll be the change I want to see in the world haha.

Aw, that’s disappointing. I’m a little surprised, but it still a DIY hobbyist niche and must just highly depend on your area. I’d leave your nodes up and see if anyone joins at some point in the future. Also double check the settings to maks sure you’re on the public LongFast channel?

EDIT: even with all the nodes that I connect to, there is almost no chatter happening on the public LongFast channel. People are quiet 🤷

Yeah a bummer. But I’ve still got plans to get some height, and I’ve got some friends who are gonna join in on the fun, I’m hoping we can mesh our houses 😁

Yep everything is default. US, longfast 🤷‍♂️

Once you find out, please let me know as I only see Like one node in my area and the rest are way far away. Like out of RF range far away, unless you were both on high tower structures.

Seems like most people are saying there’s way more nodes than the map shows. It’s not a guarantee though. I say give it a try!

Sweet. I have been seriously considering getting one of my own to play with. The Lilygo T-Deck Plus is the one I have my eye on.

Looks sweet. I might end with something like that eventually, but honestly I really like the idea of using my phone and just linking the mesh device to it. Reminds me of the old goTenna before they sold out.

Do you have somewhere high you could mount a repeater/router node to? Like the chimney of your house or something? Would make it even easier to connect with people, at least from home.

I’m planning on putting a few up, one at my house and each of my buddies houses.

Oh, well I likely would not be running a repeater, at least not right away. I would probably be sticking with just the handheld device.

My area shows two nodes on meshmap, my heltec v3 sees 100 nodes, of which 50 are on the map in the meshtastic app. Different locations probably have different results, but I’d say that you’ll be pleased when your nodes arrive, I was!
