Summary

Senator Lindsey Graham urged special counsel Jack Smith to end his legal cases against Donald Trump after Trump’s projected 2024 presidential victory.

Graham criticized the charges as “politically motivated” and claimed the American public was tired of “lawfare.”

Smith, appointed in 2022, had charged Trump over classified documents and his role in the January 6 Capitol attack. The Supreme Court’s recent decision limiting prosecution scope bolstered Trump’s legal position.

Trump, convicted in a separate case involving business record falsification, has indicated plans to dismiss Smith upon taking office in January.

It’s time I stop reading the news for the next 4 years. It’s going to be nothing but absolutely infuriating.

Trump gets away with everything and the people trying to uphold some sense of justice immediately get the hammer.

    I hate people so much.

Not reading the news isn’t going to make the situation better or worse. I understand the sentiment, but don’t understand why saying it is useful. Hiding your head in the sand doesn’t mean your body won’t be harmed.

There are better ways to cope with the emotional onslaught of this change. Focusing on your community, finding new digital communities, learning to cope in general, finding validating ways to feel liberated… In other words actions. Small perhaps, but beyond this notion of burying our heads in the sand.

I think that’s their point. Reading it doesn’t help, it’ll just stress you out and cause worry. For most people there’s nothing we can do, so ignoring it might be the healthiest option.

If I keep reading it I’m eventually going to go buy a 9mm and eat some lead . Sometimes not participating IS the best option.

Look, yes avoidance is a valid behavior. We have it, we need it, and it’s useful at times, but like any behavior it can become a dependence. Wholly depending on an attitude of avoidance to deal with the outside world doesn’t build resilience. Desensitizing to the trauma and being able to face it, and act in spite of seems like a better goal.

It’s a screwed up depressing world and I empathize with the horror, disgust, disillusionment, disenfranchised nature of the world.

I struggle with it constantly, and maybe we should create a support group or a sub for this alone, as we need to find ways to cope with this, as it’s not going to get fixed in a vacuum. Yet we can’t fix it if we are overwhelmed and emotionally shutdown…

I’m not sure becoming desensitised to trauma is an effective strategy either. That suggests that we stop caring about what’s going on.
I’m in the same situation, 2016-2020 was a stressful time. Constantly trying to keep up with each horrible new development, about which I could do nothing but despair, became an unhealthy obsession. I don’t want to do that again. I’m not a political scientist, and I neglected my own personal growth and development becoming an armchair expert in politics because I could see what was happening. This time I’m going to focus on myself and the people around me because that’s all I can do. The world will keep turning. If I have the opportunity to do something positive, I’ll take it.

This is the worst part of it all. Trump will serve 4 more years (and hopefully not a day longer) and retire blissfully. He’s getting away with everything scot-free.

      Mostly nazis.

Yes the response to stopping them was shit on several fronts. But all of that added together multiplied by three is less than nazi republican badness.

The people who have enough privilege to ignore the news are the ones who can do the most to fix things.

What can I do? Genuine question. I vote every election, I even donate every month. Reading the news is going to cause stress and anxiety over things I have 0 control over. Why expose myself to that?

Like anything stressful but important sometimes ya just gotta find ways to deal with it. Knowing what’s happening, at least somewhat, is important.

You’re saying I can do the most though, is the most I can do just know what’s going on? Curious how that helps anything.

The people with the most privilege to ignore things are the ones who have safety nets to cushion them. If you aren’t in that group then you really shouldn’t be hiding from the news. If you are, then you are in a group that has money and possibly influence, and which can draw the ears of people who have written off minority groups but might still listen to you. You don’t have to break yourself over it but plugging your ears and getting shat on later isn’t going to do anything.
