Not OP and I haven’t been in a decade but every time in the past I went I was always shocked by how much bribery or “gift giving” was ingrained into the culture. I heard it’s less of a thing now though but I cannot confirm.
There are western style malls in China that you do not haggle in. There are also big brand stores. It’s only really small malls and like street vendors where haggle and only for specific types of items usually. Like you don’t haggle food for instance.
That being said, you do haggle a lot especially when shopping at mom and pop (usually clothing) stores.
It’s always a bit of a culture shock. What are some of the things you saw?

I think I heard about this, you’re expected to haggle for the price of everything you buy? Shopping takes ages
