I watched the show after this retrospective. It’s pretty good! However, the strongest episodes are definitely the ones that actually follow up on the premise. The ones where Earl is working on his list. The other episodes are… Fine. Nothing more.
Yeah, agreed. The show is about the list and the abstractions it represents, not the characters so much. Without the list the chars are kinda meh. Generic sitcom stuff.
