The blue whale in the London Natural History Museum was disproportioned for similar reason.
Really? The one in the entrance hall or the one in the whale exhibit?
The big entrance hall one, IIRC. If you go to the upper galley that encircles it, there’s a board there that explains. The hanging skeleton is wider, and the real animal more slim and long.
