If you walk through your local Publix, you may have noticed a new sign reminding customers to keep their furry friends at home if they wish to shop.

Recently, these signs have been popping up in more Publix stores, saying that pets, including emotional support animals, are not allowed to enter.

While service animals are allowed, they must be under the control of their owners and the store asked that people keep them away from carts or baskets for sanitation purposes.

I’ve got dogs and I wouldn’t take them into a regular shop even if allowed.

There are enough poorly behaved and stinky people in shops, don’t want them bringing their dogs too.

I used to take my dog into Lowe’s just to help socialize him, but during the pandemic absolutely everyone did that and it was a nightmare of lunging animals.

I feel like the biggest issue here is that Publix is a grocery store and having dogs around food ain’t really a good idea. Lowes has big “dogs allowed” signs on the front door

Not to mention dogs in carts. I would think for someone who’s allergic to pets shouldn’t have to worry when picking up produce and bread.

Good point, my sister is one of those people. She has to take medicine before she plans to hang out with dogs or her throat closes. I didn’t even think of allergic reactions at first, but that would be terrible.

People who do this don’t give a shit about signs or admit making people uncomfortable. People who bring their non service dogs to stores are just assholes and a sign won’t fix it

Fair point. But because one thing is bad, it’s not an excuse to let another thing be bad.

Hey guess what? Private business, neither you nor your non-service animal are protected classes. End of story.

Since when is this news? The grocery stores near me only allow service animals, and it’s been that way for as long as I can remember.

Some shitheels have been bringing their dogs into non-dog spaces under the guise of being “an emotional support animal”.

While there are some very specific instances where emotional support animals are a thing (PTSD, severe anxiety disorders, etc.) it did not become widespread until Karens started using it as loophole to bring their dogs into grocery stores, restaurants, and many other places where dogs werent allowed before.

I did not know that. I guess most places don’t, either, and decide to just let the animals in rather than deal with any discrimination lawsuits.

Severe anxiety and PTSD can qualify as disabilities, and therefore can have a service animal.

A service animal is trained to perform a specific task that allows a person with a disability to perform normal daily activities. For PTSD and anxiety this action can be (but isn’t limited to) detecting the onset of a panic attack and providing direct physical stimulation/grounding.

An emotional support animal is one that isn’t trained for a task and whose presence makes the person with a disabling condition better (e.g. someone with anxiety is generally less anxious with their cat around).

ESA’s are not protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (or equivalent in most other countries) while service animals are.

Also, a service animal can be any type of dog. Yes, even a pug can be a service animal if it is trained to do a task. No, training does not have to be done by an expensive service.

There are no specific instances recognized by the ADA in which emotional support animals are recognized as anything other than pets.

The PTSD dogs that sense an on coming attack, or scout the area for harmful stimuli are not ESA. They’re service animals. Period.

Have to remember, bulk of Publix are in Florida.

Know what else is in Florida?

Old people. And they take their purse dog terrier everywhere via golf cart.

My trader joes had a breaking point where shitty Karens and their dogs were getting yelled at by hipsters, while a Hawaiian shirt manager tried to defuse the situation.

    Theres a sign there too.

The only good thing that’s been done in Florida this year. I’d love it if public spaces were a little more accessible for people with allergies.

I’ve gotten several old Karen’s upset at me for telling them their shitty little purse dogs are not allowed. Every single one of them says it’s a support animal or something along those lines. They’re not fucking blind. These horrible cunts thing their groomed shih Tzu riding in their cart is an emotional support animal. Cuz they need to pet it when people point out what a cunt they are or something. Humanity doesn’t deserve to keep going at this rate.
