Hello! My name is Carlos. I’m from Puerto Rico. I help run a penpal-style group called One User Per Country (OUPC). As the name suggests, each member of the group “represents” a country or nation. Naturally, it is inherently political, although its main purpose is cultural exchange and entertainment. One day we could be talking about how a war is affecting our members in the Middle East or Eastern Europe, and the next be messing around with some inside jokes and memes that have been shared within the community for years.
Our home is primarily WhatsApp but we also have a Discord we use for hangouts, movies, and book club activities. We’ve been active since 2017 and are currently at 67 members with members ranging from Europe, Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Middle East, North America, etc. Many of us have become real-life friends and have met each other in-person.
We’re currently looking for a Swedish representative. We have a couple basic rules to ensure authentic representation (as best as we can):
- You must be 18+ years old.
- Must have been raised in the country you wish to represent.
- Must still be living in said country. (Optional but highly valued)
Due to how much I personally value this group, I have a little conversation before adding anyone. This is because our members constantly talk about their personal lives (myself included), so I want whoever we add to be genuinely looking to make some friends and not scam us.
