    This is an interesting development. I wonder what third party platforms Facebook / Meta will approve. Maybe none. Maybe they’re just trying to look good for the regulators.

    As always, federated platforms are only as secure and private as their worst actor, which in this case will probably be something run by Mark Zuckerberg and co.

    Personally, I don’t think Signal should connect directly to Facebook platforms, but maybe I’m just cynical. Something Matrix-related might actually work better.

      Really hope signal stays disconnected. IMO this is more more facebooks attempt at retaining people on their platform as signal and others grow, showing users that truly private alternatives exist and are feature rich.

        Signal has stated they won’t be connecting with WhatsApp/Meta as it would reduce their user’s privacy.

        the good news is Signal is getting more popular with this because whatsapp is ubiquitous and mandatory app in many countries such as India and Brazil and also it is hard to live without Whatsapp. Bad news is: you know Facebook.
