I mean, yes. But he’s implying that there are places where root causes are investigated publicly and changes are implemented. Are there even places on earth without racism? Is my view of the world too bleak?

You are adding a good perspective. Likely the person saying the thing in the meme is pointing out the flaws in the system that is in front of their face and therefore which they know to some degree better than others, though that is not to say that the grass may be equally or possibly even less green on the other side (or if it does appear to be greener, that it is not paint on the grass that makes it look so).

I think this is trying to tie into the idea that Eastern parts of the world have historically “focused” more on holistic than reductionistic thought patterns, but let’s not kid ourselves, the plight of the Uyghur people tells us all we need to know about whether or not racism is alive and well in that communist country.

And likewise the presence of socialism rather than capitalism did not halt the fall of the eastern socialist USSR.

Mostly it’s just rich people controlling the masses, almost everywhere you look.

So it’s not so much that this meme is incorrect, but rather that it would be far more so if it said like “The West (and the East too) is…” And yet the biggest counter-example to that might be the socialist countries in Europe, who ironically are generally considered to be located in “the West”, and yet I suppose they are not typical of most places in the West such as the USA, the UK, Germany, etc. Possibly the discovery of oil in some of them may change that, sadly:-(.

        Thank you, for that quote.

I have always thought of the concept as:

Capitalism extracts maximum profits from the maximum suffering of the lower classes.

That is true. It’s good to know that the west doesn’t have any problems with racism, capitalism and colonialism. /s

It’s a criticism of western hypocrisy. Where liberalism claims to ameliorate those issues.

More of a criticism of the US, in other parts of the world our liberals are pretty openly racist.

Not to mention the other political ideologies.

i’m glad you brought that up, because i am just as concerned if not more about the plight of the Uyghurs as i am about the Palestinians

I didn’t realize that was still going on. How many have died so far in that genocide? I haven’t seen much news about that recently. You’d think the state department and western media would keep that in the public consciousness. Even so, that doesn’t discount the inequality inherent in capitalism that permeates the current state of the world.

The solution is Degrowth with a sustainable economy. It’s the only viable solution to climate change.

I’m not a simp for socialism. But I’m savvy enough to realize that capitalism requires growth and new markets, while Marxist economics provides the only framework to allow the degrowth necessary to combat climate catastrophe. Overconsumption and artificial scarcity aren’t going to serve us well in the coming decades.
