I have recently bought a cheap second hand DSLR (Nikon D3200) and I want some simple way to print photos I am happy with. I have been looking at devices like the Instax Link, the Polaroid Hi-Print and some Canon product.

What I really want is just simple prints that look good with no extra features. The device should preferably be in an as small format as possible and be either powered by USB-C or charged by USB-C if it is battery powered.

The best would be if the interface used to print the photos was as dumb/simple as possible. I accept that I might have to get an app or something, but if possible I would like it to be usable without an app as well (SD card? Web interface?).

I have never owned any photo printers before and don’t really know what to look for. Hopefully I have made it somewhat clear what I am looking for.

What are your recommendations? What do you use? Are you happy with your photo printer?

I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I have a canon selphy, the prints are good quality, and you can print from SD card or via wifi (I think there’s an app too, but I’ve never used it)

You can buy a battery for it, although it charges from mains not USB.

Prints aren’t super cheap, but I think it’s cheaper than comparable mini printers.

Some reviews I’ve read complains that the ink film cartridges often jams leading to wasted ink. Also, no possibility to buy photo paper and ink separately. What is your experience? Have you had these issues?

What model of Selphy printer do you have? I found many different ones.

I’ve not had jams. Sometimes if there’s dust on the top piece of paper, from not using it for a while, it stops the “ink” from adhering there, which is annoying. You shouldn’t need to buy paper and ink separately, because of how dye sublimation printers work you will always have enough ink for the paper and vice versa.

        I have a CP1300.

Personally I wouldn’t bother. A lot of high street stores and supermarkets offer photo printing for a few pence per image and the quality is massively superior to those products.

Because of the power consumed, don’t expect any decent photo printer to last long on battery. They’ll be AC-powered most of the time.
