The first loot frame, the necromancer, nr.1 source of confusion for new players as to why that enemy I’m shooting is not dying - Nekros!
Release date: 2013-09-13
Passive: A master of death, Nekros regenerates 5 points of Health any time an enemy dies within 10 meters of him. His passive can also heal Companions.
Soul Punch - A blow so powerful, it turns the enemy’s very soul into a deadly projectile, damaging all in its path.
Terrify - Casts fear into the hearts of nearby enemies, causing them to run away in terror.
Desecrate - Forces fallen enemies around you to drop additional loot.
Shadows of the Dead - Summons shadow versions of vanquished enemies to fight alongside you for a short period of time.
Acquisition: Main blueprint can be purchased from the Market. Nekros’ component blueprints can be obtained from defeating Lephantis on Magnacidium, Deimos.
Along with Saryn, Nekros is probably the most influential “tool” warframe for my early game self. While Saryn blessed me with Zenurik, Nekros blessed me with extra rare resources (like Tellurium) making many grinds far less painful. He has been retired for a while due to Khora doing his job better, but his contributions shall be forever remembered. If I do bring him out nowadays, it’s usually with a Shield of Shadows build. I wish his undead army was capable of more than just being distractions and extra HP for him, would be cool to have an actual minion frame that can support their minions and use them as their main firepower.
What’s even more fun is if you can get a khora and a nekros together. Then desacrate can affect the enemies khora has already killed
Can you link a build for Khora that accomplishes this? I haven’t played in a couple years and I need to update my farming methods.
This is what I use on my Khora. You don’t have to go for shield gating for the majority of content, but with how spammy Khora is, it just works very well on her. 2nd Arcane to taste, Energize is kinda required (good thing it’s very easy to get right now!) but if you don’t have it, just fit in some efficiency and drop the shieldgating for your traditional HP tanking. Pull is here to help get stragglers into the Strangledome for extra looting, only useful on really big maps. This is a Steel Path tier build, so for normal content the only thing you really need is a bunch of range, comfortable duration and the 2 augments.
If you have an Oberon in your party casting renewal, you might want to lay off the shadows. Renewal costs more for each ally being healed, so it will likely be too expensive for the Oberon player to keep up their lifeline ability
Yeah, Oberon’s Renewal really is showing it’s age. I’ll discuss him more in 2 weeks when it’s his turn on the Weekly Warframe, but these sorts of anti-synergies are a relic of the old warframe design.
It might be a good change to make “transient” allies exempt from being affected by certain warframe abilities. I know with Harrow that Thralls and Shadows can make the bloom effect on Penance too intense to see through, and I’m guessing that Thralls also negatively effect Oberon’s energy reserves.
I still struggle to find a good color scheme for the Shadows so that I won’t keep shooting at them, and I refuse to use the new UGLY ally outline thing
I really like Nekros and the type of build he can go for, he’s still my goto frame for long survivals since otherwise you tend to run out of life support no matter how many enemies you kill. It does feel like he doesn’t have any interesting abilities though, desecrate is practically a passive and terrify is a good armor strip but the rest might as well not exist. I think I have petrify subsumed for his #1 for added loot generation and some CC.
I’d suggest replacing petrify with Pull. Pull has more range than any other ability. Just yank them into Nekros’ range!
Petrify and Desecrate are 2 different types of loot generation so they stack, it’s mostly a way to create even more drops for the team. Pull could be fun indeed tho
The problem with Petrify is that it affects so few, and only manually. There’s just no scenario I can think of where Atlas would outperform Mag simply by having Mag bring more enemies faster into the range of a trio of Nekros, Hydroid, and Khora.
I usually run a max range nekros so range is rarely an issue. It also feels really good to cast petrify when you run into a corridor full of basic grunts, you get an instant statue/pinata gallery 😁

I gotta admit I only really use him for loot boosting since he can stack with my friends khora. That said I do need to get around to an undead army build sometime because it sounds fun.
