Tell me, and I’ll try and track down some good pieces to post. Still have plenty in stock, but never too early to collect ideas for more. You are of course welcome to post pieces yourself, as well!

I’m particularly interested in a wide range of genres, and older games. The game medium has existed for a while now, and I’d love to appreciate some of the earlier efforts of game creators.

True! Please do make some posts if you like.

Otherwise I’ll add it to the list of pretty games for me to eventually get to :D

Chrono Trigger, metroid, or sonic for pixel art. What system and graphics style are you looking into? I think that would be a great starting point for a lot of posts.

    far: lone sails

i love the art style in that game,

    particularly the oppidomotive

also to a lesser extent, far: changing tides

and i’m quite fond of: bastion/transistor, hollow knight, little nightmares, and rime (i realise none of these are particularly old)

You have a really good list! All of those have merit, feel free to post them yourself if you have screenshots, or find good ones.

Hmmm. That’s a good question. I’d say stick to content that doesn’t spoil the story of a game.

Stuff that’s meaningless without context is fine with me, tho.

I’ll think about it further and add a rule to the sidebar.

yeah i don’t know the solution - i wouldn’t really want to join a lemmysphere rife with spoilers, but a lot of games’ best scenes are spoilers

i’m looking forward to #3185 being implemented

Not an old game but it’s made with RPG Maker, so it fits into the retro aesthetic. Omori. The devs have really captured the isolating yourself in an ideal fantasy world situation. It’s a literal masterpiece, both in story, gameplay, art, ost everything. Yeah I’m an Omori fan, how could you tell? XD

Wow, that is a game with an artstyle! I’ll probably post some of that, but you should do it if you’re up for it.

I am new to this community and so glad I found a place dedicated to artwork. I am a huge fan of game art, official or otherwise. It was disappointing to find AI-generated artwork is allowed here though, considering it steals from artists and does not credit them. I’m sorry if this isn’t the right way to discuss this, or if I’m being the vocal minority.

It’s honestly difficult to avoid. At its best, AI generation is used as a starting point by artists who know how to improve on the result to make it their own, and in these cases the fact that AI generation was used might only be evident in how fast the artist in question is able to produce their pieces.

As for the issue of training data and how licensing should work around acquiring the datasets used to train the models, that’s a discussion that the community really isn’t for. Suffice to say, I think these models are standing upon the shoulders of artists past, and that should be taken into consideration in their creation and use, in way that currently isn’t happening.

I’ll enact rules if someone starts spamming posts of straight unedited output, but until then I don’t mind posting the occasional curated piece that is a cut above the rest of the flood.
