This time my armor was heavily inspired by Elden Ring, including the cerulean and crimson flasks.
I’ve named this iteration Astor the Tarnished.
The black one on the right has a great aesthetic, that’s my fav, but the others have excellent parts too- great showing all around!
Thank you! It’s definitely my most “original” faire outfits. A good blend of comfort and style. The crusader is so bad ass, but the maille is so heavy lol.
Is the parka just to keep warm, or specifically to add bulk? Because I think that extra size is what really makes the 3rd on stand out and look more intimidating.
All three are amazing! If I had to pick one though I’d go with the one on the left
Thank you! That one is a more complete and weathered version of my first ever ren fest outfit from last year. I wanted to finally dress up and do it right. Even made my own chainmail coif (don’t have time to make the whole ass hauberk lol.)
Here’s how it looked the first time I ever wore it to the festival. My god look how “clean” it looks lol. Definitely Prefer the weathering and wear and tear I put on it now lol. Also the weight I’ve lost.
The one on the right is the coolest. You look like such a fucking unit.
Ever noticed how in America we tend to come up with abbreviations for any word people don’t feel like learning to spell? Renaissance, Mayonnaise… even Through. (Ren, Mayo and Thru, respectively).
Anyway, awesome costumes, love both armors equally.
That’s fair, but wouldn’t the more practical conclusion be that we abbreviate long words since that’s the whole goal of abbreviation?
We also abbreviate short ones I suppose, like “to” to 2 and “with” to “w/”. Really, we just abbreviate things.
That’s more of an internet thing, not an American thing.
I guess my beef is not with the abbreviations, but more with the fact that short versions completely replace long ones. I can’t recall the last time I heard someone say words like mayonnaise or influenza.
Or brassiere, or automobile, or cellular telephone, or taximeter cabriolet, or tarpaulin, etc.
This is just how language works.
Ok, that’s a good one. I think I might have fallen down with the good old bias: everything before my time is antique and everything newer than my time is an abomination. Thanks for slapping some sense into the old grumpy guy :)
Y use lot letrs wen few letrs do trick?
None of them look like Adam Driver at all, sorry.
The Mongolian speaks the truth!

The middle is actualy my crusader outfit minus the armor lol. Just a good ultra lightweight renfest fit for enjoying the pubcrawl and faire in comfort while still dressing up. The hat I’m wearing is actually my padded arming cap I wear under the maille and helm.
Middle!
Glad ya like it! It’s definitely my most comfortable fit! Great for just enjoying the festival!
Great outfits! I’m curious though, does your local ren faire not require to keep your weapons “peace-tied”? I know most festival attendees aren’t looking to cut people down, but even an unsharpened blade can cause a lot of damage in a sword-fighting accident so I feel like it’s a nice policy overall.
Also, would you care to share roughly how much time and money went into these? I’ve wanted to get into the cosplay aspect of Ren-faire but it feels prohibitively expensive even buying online, and outright bank breaking buying anything at the faire itself. I haven’t been in a few years but even back then the cheapest pair of boots anywhere on-site were $600. Granted, they were very nice looking, leather, presumably hand-made, and came with a lifetime guarantee (as long as that vendor stays) but whew that’s more than I can afford.
I know a lot of that stuff will be and should be expensive just for the craftsmanship and time involved though. My buddy made his own chainmail shirt and it took him months and months of manually bending steel wire so I get how much work goes into these pieces.
Anyway, just wanted to say nice outfits and keep it going :)
Yeah no problem!
Normally yes, but this sword is jist a nice looking LARP sword and is made of foam. Wouldn’t mind having a real one, but I like the option to pose for pictures.
Would love to go into detail on my outfits! I’ll have to write up a comprehensive note on everything and get back to it. Or make a video series on it.
The middle one is literally my crusader armor just minus the armor. Makes for a nice lightweight outfit for the fest. You can get some stuff super cheap for the festival really by being creative at goodwill.
Find some loose shirts, leather belts and just kinda layer stuff. My cape in my black outfit was a $20 fur blanket from marshalls.
In this costume:
The robe is a cheap ass harry potter robe from amazon. I used sand paper on it to give it some texture. The fur trim is from that fur blanket I got from marshalls. I just oulled the inner liner from the fur blanket and used it as a cape, and the the fur for the trim of my robe. The skull mask is a $20 plastic mask from amazon with some accryllic paints used for weathering. The necklaces and adornments, cheap trash from hobby lobby.
I’d love to break down everything further, but will take some time. Just really thought into what you wanna do and get creative with stuff you can find. You can out together a simple outfit pretty cheaply. I HIGHLY recommend medievalcollectibles.com that’s where I found a lot of mt specific stuff that I couldn’t make from repurposed things.
Also the crusader was about a year/2 in the making. Every paycheck, I would buy one piece. If on a budget, take your time and just piece it out. As you get different things, you can use different parts for different outfits.

Thank you!
my armor was heavily inspired by Elden Ring
not a Red Bull can?
The crusader was influenced heavily by the vanguard class from Chivalry 2.
I’m just kidding around. Looks good!
Thankee kindly. Glad you were joking. Wouldn’t want to have to send the dead king after ya.
