Eugene is an interesting place. Feels like the clock stopped there around 1972. Buuut… the big scandal was this giant concrete cross erected illegally on public land in the middle of the night in the 1960s.
Argument was it should come down as a 1st Amendment violation. Counter was “Naw, naw, it’s not religious, it’s a war memorial…”
Turns out, it was put in the exact same place as THIS old cross:
It’s gone now, but they didn’t destroy it, just moved it out of town and up the valley a ways to a church property.
