As Amazon MGM gains control of the James Bond franchise, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are stepping back to focus on other projects.

I agree. They will lose the goofy, quirky stuff that makes Bond movies so special. They will probably be bland super self serious Mission Impossible clones now. Sad to see such a long running series die like this.

Well none of the Craig bond series were for me. I grew up with Connery and Moore. Craig lacked or simply didn’t bring what most other actors had to the roll. That said I wouldn’t say they sucked. And I say that as someone who enjoyed the Woody Allen/Peter Sellers Casino Royal more.

Had they made him a different double aught, honestly they could have done that with most of the re castings. He’s not a time lord after all. I think I would have enjoyed Craig’s run more. But plenty of people seem to enjoy his run. People like what they’re going to like. Which doesn’t make it trash if we don’t. Because honestly I love a certain type of good trash.

I didnt have an issue with Craig so much. Its just the writing that was awful. Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall were decent. The new M and the changes to the plot design that came after ruined it all for me. In my opinion the series should have ended after Skyfall.

It changed a lot more long before that. But that’s probably also why you’re not wrong that it should have ended. Much of the movies were from a time with a different mentality than modern times. They were often sexist and a bit campy. Something which late 90s into 2000s certainly wasn’t going to fly the same.

Though ironically. The kingsman films actually ended up being much more enjoyable in the same vein even without that. At least for myself than any of the Daniel Craig bond films. Which is no shade against Craig. He’s a good actor and has been in a lot of good things. They’re just something about him to me was off for that particular role.

Well that sucks. To me there was still something special about 007 but now I fear the worst.

“What if… now hear me out… what if we have the next James Bond take place in the future? It’ll be like his great-grandson with the same name. Kinda like Moonraker, but even more futuristic.” – Amazon exec, probably.

Ehh, Bond movies haven’t been good for 20 years at this point anyway. At least I can just start ignoring the series entirely now.

Wonder how long it’ll take them to tank the series. It’s a given that it’s going to happen.

I have no faith in Amazon to handle this well, but it’s not impossible for them to hand it off to someone competent either. At the same time, everything I know about the way the previous stewards of the franchise handled things makes me glad to see them go.

? They handled it as if it were a member of their family. It was their father’s legacy. Many of the key creatives and technicians are the kids of those there at the beginning, learning their trade over decades and handling it with the same dedication. A true cottage industry.

They should take it to streaming. I’d love to see faithful, period adaptations of the books. Moonraker, following Star Wars, was kind of a travesty. A 4 hour adaptation of the book would be great!
