Never actually left. It was a facade for the news cycle like the rest of it, like TikTok.

    1. Create fake problem

    2. Nothing changes

    3. Declare victory over the problem that didn’t exist

    4. Let media fight over it

    5. Do more quietly, actually horrible things in the background while they yell at the nothing

    6. Create a new fake problem

I’m not why you consider exposing members of the government as being extremely racist to be a facade or a fake problem. I think it’s a real problem that people should be pretty fucking aware of. Especially any person who might be a subject of that racism.

Hiding your head in the sand and pretending this didn’t happen doesn’t seem especially helpful to any possible victims of this person.

The fake problem is this kid “resigning” - don’t just assume and go 1000% hard based on your false assumption. Ask a question and clarify if you need, try to assume better intentions of people on Lemmy, unless something is very obvious.

The news is spending breath talking about this kid, him “resigning”, music holding a “poll” that pings his bots to consent, Vance and trump’s cosigning, Vance’s wife being Indian… Etc etc… they did that so the news STOPPED talking about the actual horror that you mentioned, these kids are downloading the whole of OPM employee data, likely including PII and PHI, and grabbing other DBs that will intentionally (or unintentionally through incompetence) leak and likely cost lives.

Flooding the zone and trying to get the zeitgeist to follow the bouncing ball

Considering it took you 10 hours to respond, I don’t know that asking a question and expecting a clarification would have been especially prudent.

And that’s fine. But then to expect me to ask them a question when I won’t get it timely answer is a little much. Remember that they put this on me.

Didn’t know you had a publication deadline. My points stand.

The false urgency was informed by your misunderstanding and associated upset. So maybe reflect on that. Okay… Cool

I don’t see a point in asking a question in a discussion forum if the answer takes half a day to get to me. This isn’t Quora.

They hired Daniel Penny who chocked and killed a homeless mentally ill black man.

He was cleared in court on the defense of protecting others but the victim had not used violence, they were erratic and appeared threatening, and had been involved in fist fights in the past (which is irrelevant in the present). Its Penny who started a physical attack and ended that mans life.

Even with the most extreme benefit of doubt where Penny really is a good samaritan. Hiring him in the context of this political collapse is a clear sign and cannot be misread.

        Killing undesirables gets rewarded.

My takeaway from this is that the entire thing was performative.

The racist shit keeps unfettered access to government information without a security clearance (and the 25 year old, too), Trump and Co spin a narrative of “the past is the past, ‘mistakes’ should be forgiven and forgotten,” and nobody is held accountable for anything. Sounds about right.

Am I the only one who feels it’s impossible to stop these people with voting and information campaigns? I feel the urge to make Nazis afraid again.

Voting will not stop anything in America now that it is a one-party state.

A lot of people still think Republicans, who now control all three branches of government and have made it clear that they do not care about the law, will give up power willingly. I really do not know why they think so.

The media and the Democratic Party will be the last ones to admit the Nazi takeover has gone too far to be corrected through conventional means. But lots of people feel like you do. Active resistance of many kinds is needed.

They’re acting like he said these things 10 years ago when he was a stupid kid, and has apologized since then.

He said it 5 months ago, and he tried deleting them so he didn’t get caught, not out of shame or apology.

They know this, they just don’t care anymore. I’m surprised they made any statements at all.

“For the sake of both of our kids? Grow up,” he replied. “Racist trolls on the internet, while offensive, don’t threaten my kids. You know what does? A culture that denies grace to people who make mistakes. A culture that encourages congressmen to act like whiny children.”

What a weird distorted way of thinking.

Following the Trump playbook of always attack and never defend or apologize. The dude literally posted racist shit in September and they’re acting like it was ancient history of something the guy posted decades ago.

Other than being a shameless shitstain there’s nothing special or unique about him compared to thousands of others his age

JD did the first post saying that being a racist piece of shit shouldn’t ruin the rest of your life. Which is especially sad because this kids racist rant was about violence against people from India should be ok (and his wife is Indian along with his kids).

Then the media asked Trump who of course pretended to know nothing and said if JD said he should have it back he should. Then Elon posted on his own platform that the kid was coming back.

I agree. From the Nazi salute to this, Musk is making it maddeningly clear that he is as racist and bigoted as we imagine, and wants to invite his Nazi friends to join in.
