My favorite example of how to lie with statistics:
“Of the 117 billion people who have ever lived, 8 billion of them are still alive. Therefore, the chance of dying is not 100% but rather only 93%.”
“The place most people die is in their bed. Beds are thus the most dangerous place in the world”
I have never died, therefore all previous data points show I can’t die. Good science!
That is actually precisely what the “paradox of the cock” is saying.
A rooster crows every morning. They observe this and conclude that statistically, they can’t die. Which is bullshit, ofc.
The zombie apocalypse starts when the bottom chamber fills up.
I think this is a really well done graphic. Details like the colour of the title corresponding to the colours of the data points… I like that. This is what I come to this community for. Thank you!
So you’re saying we unlock immortality after another 50billion deaths?
It’s actually not a terrible assumption. If someone was going to live to 1000 years old, they are probably already alive today.
It’s possibly more likely we will destroy ourselves in that time frame though… So 50-50, you’re either immortal or you aren’t.
I think if we ever unlock immortality, we better unlock light speed travel and colonize other planets before that. The planet is already taking a beating with mortal humans.
When you tell someone to pound sand and they go on to fuck the entire world ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
