Fuck that. Give me money, I can handle my own emotional business in my own time if I’m not stressed about bills.
What? You mean you don’t need a participation trophy for going to work? With a ceremony? And a comfort blanket?
"Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.” – G. Michael Hopf, Those Who Remain
TLDR - “Throw more buzzwords at your employees in order to pay them even less!”
I go to work for a dollar salary. I don’t get up in the morning and go to work every day because it makes me feel warm and fuzzy. I get my emotions with my family and my friends.
Emotional salary is the nonmonetary compensation that impacts how people feel about their job, like culture, career, and work-life balance.
The only “nonmonetary compensation” I need from my job is respect. Simple, basic respect will cover all the bases. Pay me enough and respect me, and I’ll take care of my own emotional well-being.
Would like both - but obviously money’s the priority if it’s mutually exclusive!
I’ll pay for my next grocery trip with a warm, emotional hug. That’s what employers really want.
And while we’re talking about touching, feeling any whatnot, they can go duck themselves.
If by “work-life balance” they mean the same salary for working no more than 40hrs a week…yeah?
