Gary Gygax created a game that changed that way I thought about “playing a game”. He gave me worlds of endless adventure.

And my nerdy friends and I played countless hours. Thanks Gary.

      Also remember Dave Arneson!

What Dave concieved, Gary compiled into a readable format.

They are both credited with the creation of Original Dungeons & Dragons!

Happy birthday to all of our OG dungeon master! Without him our lives would be vastly different I reckon.

Heh. Well, to put it simply: it was a classic crawl of his own devising (could’ve been one of the other OG’s, I don’t actually recall all I know is that it was brutally unforgiving) and he had a stack of pre-gens next to his screen. At first, I assumed they were errata, campaign notes, etc., but all became clear as we started to die. The crowd around the table was on edge, like some fanatical musical chairs ritual. As soon as the player of the freshly dead PC didn’t immediately fork over another $5 for a new character sheet from the pile, the clamor erupted. Predating Fry by decades, the shouts were more or less the same: takemymoney! 😅🤦🏼‍♂️

To each their own, but I never DMed anything like that ever again. I hope that was his intention; playing 4D mental chess with the new generation. 🤞🏼

Hahah brutal! Thank you for sharing. I got into DnD after he passed. Never got a chance to meet the man behind it all.

To be fair, he was only one of the guys, and was known for taking the spotlight more often than not. Personally, I’m more partial to Ed Greenwood’s contributions, for instance, and the establishing storylines of Melf, Fizban, Bigby, Mordenkainen, et al. 🤓🤘🏼
